Preparing Our Boys To Be Men of High Character

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending an Annual Business Meeting and Council Recognition Dinner for my regional Boy Scouts Organization. I always look forward to it because it lets us know of the heroic efforts of the young men, younger boys, and adult leaders. Some of the stories reflect extraordinary heroism, caring, and compassion. The talents and skills that they have exemplified often surpass anything my mind can conceive and would put these boys in a league with survivalists and “extreme” outdoorsmen.

I learned that a key issue scouting faces is membership at this time because the young cubs are not crossing over to the troops for older boys and new boys are not entering at the same rate they did in the past.
For the first time I really listened to the words spoken by the scouts as they conducted the honor guard ceremony and I watched the visual power point projection of those words that described what a scout is. This time as I listened, I reflected on the meaning of what was being said as I thought about the state of our nation, our cities, our schools, and our communities. In a world of apparent shrinking resources, climatic change with severe weather related crises, issues of low educational achievement, youth gangs, moral decay and greed, and a grass roots ground swell that says, “I am not my brother’s keeper”, I began to wonder why a parent would not want to have his/her son involved in scouting from a young age through completion of high school?

Unlike the seasonal sports team that may last for three months, the Boy Scouts makes a commitment to that youngster through his 18th birthday!
The oath says: “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law: to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

The character traits that describe a boy scout are: A boy scout is:

Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
Reverent

These are traits that could help to turn around the popular culture iconic reverence for celebrity; its disengagement in caring for others; and its lack of discipline needed for success. These traits develop skills to bring dreams to fruition and they foster the pursuit of personal excellence for the sake of excellence. In other words, these are traits that help to ensure a caring, committed society of the future for our grandchildren and their children.

We have decided to take a stand and invite others to join us! It's NOT political or religious, it's about WE, the PEOPLE! Let's join together, network, and try to develop some real-life resolutions /strategies that will save our communities and prevent future tragedies....

"ACTUALLY, "FDAA and FRIENDS", (anonymous opinionated bloggers with opinions) the blogosphere DOES have alot more power than YOU believe or you wouldn't be posting comments in as many relevant locations as possible. I am not like Bernie O' Hare of the blog, Lehigh Valley Ramblings, because in my mind, it really doesn't matter who you are because your propaganda is becoming more and more transparent. I really kinda feel bad for all the "powers that be" involved because although the arena WILL be built and projects WILL be completed, reputations ARE tarnished and trust HAS been lost. In the beginning FDAA led the rallying call and recruited others into thinking this arena project was the savior for A-town, now I see less enthusiastic posts. In fact, many have become silent; maybe they are having second thoughts? It's funny, because for something that is supposed to be for the good of the CITY, it definitely is leaving a bad taste in alot of people's mouths. Whether paid or unpaid "FDAA and Friends", you all are entitled to your opinion and continue to preach how we are just crazy bloggers who hate progress and want that old A-town back, when in fact, with developing sinkholes, deadly gas explosions, shootings, business loss, small town politics, and poverty, we would just be glad to have a DECENT A-town to live in..."

They had asked for a meeting with the city for help, which was attended by The Morning Call, and were never told that the NIZ lever could be used by private property owners. They asked for a meeting with Senator Brown, and were never told about options which could have helped them save their businesses. The explanation by Browne and the Administration that this information was available if they had asked the proper questions, is unacceptable. "Under a law passed in 2009 and amended in 2011, a 130-acre downtown Neighborhood Improvement Zone was established in Allentown, to defray construction costs for a hockey arena and other improvements. But what was largely unknown, until a recent Morning Call report, was that even earned income taxes owed to other municipalities like Bethlehem and Hanover Township, can now be diverted to help support projects in the Queen City. "A year ago, Nilda Ventura and her husband, Radhames, took a chance on opening a tiny Dominican restaurant near Seventh and Linden streets. Allentown's downtown hockey arena, these days plowing ahead across the street amid the dust of demolition, was barely a rumor. Now, just as their Sabroso Restaurant has begun to catch on, Ventura is worried that private developer City Center Investment Corp. — which has been buying up land around the arena, including her restaurant, for future development — is trying to push her aside. With four years remaining on a five-year lease, she's been ordered to leave because she mailed her rent check three days after it was due.
Because she rents outside the arena property, she does not qualify for government-funded relocation aid. J.B. Reilly, the developer behind City Center, said his company is merely enforcing the terms of the commercial lease with Ventura it inherited when it purchased her property in November. Reilly signed a Jan. 10 letter telling Ventura she had to "vacate the property immediately."
He said his approach in such situations is to be reasonable, but remaking downtown Allentown will require existing businesses to relocate. Ventura mailed her rent check for $725 to City Center on Jan. 4, after the Jan. 1 due date. A representative of City Center had come by on Jan. 2 to pick up the check, and she wasn't there, she said, because she wasn't expecting him. Ms. Patrice Sidoione of The "ALL THAT SALON", formerly in Allentown, PA but forced out "for the good of the arena", predicted this chaos months ago. It started with the closing of the thriving businesses between 6th and 7th Streets and now it has reached beyond the borders and is in the pockets of the surrounding municipalities...

Yes, it's about to get hectic, but I have one question? Why did it take other surrounding locations to be affected for the situation to become a widespread travesty or cause an uproar? THINK ABOUT IT!

It doesn't matter what all of the "positive people" say regarding the arena, NIZ, and the re-building of A-town, I moved here from Miami over 10 years ago and have been involved with City Hall and the people of A-town directly. Bernie, Molovinsky, other bloggers, and all of the elected officials, including the Mayor, know me and can testify to the fact that I was labeled an activist for years because I created events and opportunities and CHOSE to champion "the people" of Allentown who are the real resource and who are the ONLY answer and way to turn this ailing city around. I have heard words like "renaissance", "new beginnings", "diversity", etc every time a new project or idea was hatched. The "powers that be" were always preaching "blue skies and butterflies" when in fact, Allentown is a VERY urban area. GENTRIFICATION may seem to be the answer for those who imagine a Bethlehem-like locale in Center City, but the reality is that even with the mini-book that FUTURE wrote he/she is only HOPING those plans come together. There's no guarantee; there never is, but I am truly hoping there is a PLAN B, C, or D, for we Allentownians who, actually, live here, because in, reality, we deserve better than what we have received, thus far. How can our own elected officials treat us as shabbily as they are and expect us to NOT be discouraged. (And then have the nerve to say it's our fault for NOT being as involved as we should) People can preach all they want about attracting more "upper class" and "higher income" people to dwell among us "undesirables" but the reality is that you can't push ANYONE out and believe it or not, WE see the value in Allentown even if the ones you desire to actually dwell in this location don't; that's why WE'RE here... So, you can break this paragraph down, FUTURE and all of the other "ANONYMOUS" people, and respond, but the truth is "the powers that be" are trying to "throw the baby out with the bath water" and in doing so creating a new slogan for A-town which will be recited by all of the surrounding municipalities: "It's becoming the city that we love to hate."

I have been silent for quite a few years now. In fact, I have almost become apathetic, unfortunately. Well, I guess before I go on, you would have to know who I am and what I speak of....

My name is Alfonso Todd and I moved to the Lehigh Valley about 10 years ago. I saw a world of possibilities. I was fresh off the road as a healthcare consultant and trying to decide if I would ever return to my hometown of Miami, FL or not. (I was tired of never-ending drama there, believe it or not). I was ambitious, idealistic, and full of plans and dreams. In time, I became involved with the City of Allentown, PA and grew to appreciate the people, the community, and the way of life. In fact, I created several opportunities for myself that, simultaneously, enhanced the city itself. I guess the real problem is that I didn't like playing "the game". You know, the one where you have to be involved with the right affiliations, the right groups/organizations, and be in the right meetings. Mr. San Lawrence, of MAFIA MAGAZINE, was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in the Cypress Hills Projects. He improved his life situation and attended Pratt Institute and, afterwards, became a CMA for Communications and Video Production.

San, soon, had an epiphany which revealed that with his skills, he now possessed the ability to make a difference within his community. He began working on many "street projects" and became acquainted with some of New York's most notorious "street legends." He earned their trust/respect, which enabled him to convey their lifestyles and stories to the mass media; this, in turn, educated the public, in regards, to the realities of "street life".

On the fast track to stardom, Whitney Peyton is a young, female, rapper from the suburbs of Philly, PA. Beginning close to home and expanding throughout the East Coast, she has used her stage presence to capture a diverse fan base leading to becoming the top voted unsigned artist in her home state on MTV2’s “On The Rise” contest. Proving her work ethic and determination, Whitney has worked with an array of established producers, including Leon Kidd (producer for 90’s hit rap group Major Figgas), John Johnson (New Kids on the Block), Chris Conway (Eminem, Mary J. Dave House started his career at Jive Records as an intern before working at Interscope Geffen Records in 2002. He started his duties at Interscope Geffen A&M working as a junior assistant to Entertainment Industry Mogul Steve Stoute. He transitioned to the Radio Promotions Department when Steve Stoute left the company. In Promotions, House was able to establish relationships with radio-station DJs’, music directors of terrestrial radio stations, Club DJs, promoters, and Promo Only Mix DJs across the country and the globe.

Dave House attended many seminars such as the Mixshow Power Summit in 2003, which was a retreat for the Music Industry Record Label, talent, and executives.
He advanced within the company by becoming an executive assistant to the National Urban Promotions Director. In this position, House was able to build relationships with Radio Program Directors and learn how to read and pull BDS and Mediabase charts. He, also, gained knowledge of "rolling and building" charts, as well as being familiar with radio station research, "call out", and radio station "ad boards".

House would moonlight as a writer for a now defunct website, urbanconnects.com. He would project songs and their positions on the charts and how they would affect the music market. House's ability to do this, during his time as an
executive assistant, made him popular and gave him the reputation as a person who knew the "ins and outs" of radio airplay and chart positioning.

Dave House, once again, advanced within Interscope Geffen A&M in 2006,when he obtained a position to work the entire Rhythmic Crossover format for a mixshow.

During his almost 9 year career with the company, Dave House achieved award certifications from the RIAA, which commended him for the sales of over 50 million records. In 2010, Dave was commended for obtaining over 100 million spins detected on records he had worked on the mixshow on terrestrial network and internet
radio.

Dave House continues to work closely, behind the scenes, in the music industry helping veteran acts re-launch their careers or helping new acts guide their careers. As an inner city youth he fell in love with hip-hop.
By the age of 12 he started to hone his skills through battling on the street corners of North Philadelphia earning respect among the hip-hop community. Scorch also Attended Freedom Theater “School of the Arts” as a vocal major; during that time he a...lso worked as an intern at Power 99 fm producing the “Nick at Night Radio Show” for Power 99 fm. Through the years his musical endeavors led him to work with a well known Philadelphia producer Eddie Hustle who produced “You Remind Me” for Usher Raymond. So inspired by the sounds that he heard Scorch decided that he needed to create his brand of music and became a producer himself, with a natural sense of instrumentation, vocal production, writing, & arranging. Increase community awareness of the problem.
Empower victims of domestic violence by providing shelter and support services.
Turning Point is the Lehigh Valley's only non-profit organization that is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence. Our work involves educating and supporting abuse victims in order to help them discover their strengths and abilities so they can walk away from fear, isolation and desperation. We also believe it is important to increase community awareness of domestic violence through educational presentations and training seminars to various groups.

We are proud of our accomplishments, from July 2006 to June 2007, we:

assisted 4,093 adult and child victims of domestic violence
provided 14,055 hours of counseling service to adults and children
answered 4,865 calls to our helpline (an average of over 13 calls per day)
provided 7,818 nights of shelter to 209 adults and 251 children
assisted approximately 3,000 individuals who sought protection through the justice system.
In addition, our Outreach Department connected with:

9160 people through community education presentations
9,534 teen-aged students through the Jennifer Woodard Prevention Program
1,733 medical professionals through the Medical Advocacy Project
And volunteers logged 5,638 hours of service to Turning Point.
A client's first contact with Turning Point is usually through the agency's 24 hour helpline, 610-437-3369. The helpline is answered by a person who will discuss the caller's safety, explain Turning Point's services and discuss options.

When women, alone or with children, are forced to flee a violent household, Turning Point's two emergency shelters give them a safe haven. The agency has the capacity to shelter 15 families each night.

Other services include court advocacy, counseling, support groups, a family services program, and a transitional living program. All services are free and confidential, and are provided without regard to race, income, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnicity or religious affiliation.

Blasky Menace is a singer-songwriter and musician from Inglewood ,California. Eventually relocating to West Covina, CA. in the San Gabriel Valley. Blasky started playing guitar in 2000 which became the first step of his musical journey. Being heavily influenced by a number of artists like Rage Against The Machine, Mars Volta, Sublime, Deftones, Public Enemy, Pantera, EPMD, and several others, he fronted an LA based band called DHS, with Guitarist Dave Chacone in 2004. The band had a large live following and completed a 4 song demo before the band went on Hiatus in the fall of 2005 and eventually parted ways while Blasky and Chacone continued to work on music and still maintain a close friendship to this day.
Blasky, wanting to tap into the creative outlet he had created with DHS, continued working on new material for a debut album and a new group. What started in LA came full circle and eventually matured and exploded on to the music scene in the Lehigh Valley as Domestic Threat when he met Vinny Botts in 2007 when Blasky relocated to the east coast.
Botts, also a California native shared Blasky’s passion for music and they formed a band that would stake it’s own path in the Lehigh Valley music scene. Domestic Threat was formed and included the members, Blasky, Vinny Botts, Mark Rodes, and Kevin McGuinn. They recorded and toured the east coat playing recognized venues such as, The Trocadero in Philadelphia, Elizabethtown College, The Manhattan Room, BS Shirts in Old Town Philadelphia, and The national touring venue, Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown, PA. They played alongside and opened for bands, Body Count, The Casualties, Egypt Central and a number of local and national acts. The band finished their first EP titled, “Man Vs. Machine” in 2008 and split shortly after due to creative differences.
In late 2008, Blasky began a plan of attack for a new album, new concept, and new career as a solo artist. He began collaborating on music with Angel B, lead producer and managing partner of Dark Lion along with his brother managing partner and staff producer of Dark Lion, The Professor. In 2009 they discussed what direction Blasky’s solo project should take and offered Blasky a deal to release this project under the Dark Lion brand and become a member of the Dark Lion family. In 2010 Blasky, Angel B, and The Professor began working on the second release from Dark Lion, Blasky’s debut EP tittled, “Identity Crisis,” a 5-6 song EP showcasing Blasky’s unique style, sound, and talented songwriting ability, coining this sound as “Rock Hop.”
Blasky’s “Rock Hop” sound mixed with an explosive and energetic live stage presence can be described as a type of controlled chaos. The blend of Blasky’s edgy rock vocals, ability to twist melodies and words to form catchy hooks, and ability to spit clever rhymes, with a swag all his own, makes him a solidified double threat in the world of Hip Hop and Rock. All that combined with the incredible production of Angel B and The Professor, and you have a sound that Dark Lion has been cultivating to present to the masses for the past 3 years. Dark Lion breathes life and magic into any project they work on, with there individual style, concepts, musical ability, sheer raw talent, and musical genius. Blasky, Angel B and The Professor are standouts on the front-line of music and are full fledged rhyme fighting new era pioneers in this constantly changing and growing, diverse world of music, not only in the Lehigh Valley, but the world.

The Creative Development Program got its start about 5 years ago. At that point it was a weekly class, funded by a small grant, at The Children’s Home of Easton. It was then created to support young people’s investment in them selves, while emphasizing self-awareness and expression, which was greatly needed in an environment that housed kids in foster care, with placement issues or truancy sentences. It was soon realized the class could be extended and revised to apply to anyone, for assessment, enhancement and advancement of a student’s unseen potentials.
Shortly after, in 2007 it was incorporated into an artist development program and discussion group at the local Boys and Girls Club teen center “The Club,” where more than usual of the young people attended regularly and were notably impacted in a positive way. In 2008 a youth artist development class was added to the schedule, leading to grant funded summer programs in the Easton Area Community Center. There several of the Artists completed the program with a marketable product. Another success, the Sapphires Awaiting Program, was led by Marie George of Blazin’ Multimedia and Total You Consulting. It worked with teen females to improve self-image and self-esteem giving them the ability to relate to the world in healthy and productive ways. Me & Mi quickly attracted the attention of the neighborhood as something of value to the region, just as they once had in the music industry as l&f, shaping the future of local arts and culture.

Jamar Herron was born and raised in Kalamazoo Michigan. At the tender age of 5 Jamar began developing his gift and started playing the piano in New Life Fellowship Church, Kalamazoo Michigan where his father is pastor. Over the years Jamar has played for several groups and bands. Jamar was elevated to the position of Minister of Music at New Life Fellowship Church at the age of 21. While in that position Jamar directed 3 choirs, the praise and worship team and the church band. He remained in that for position for over 12 years until he relocated with his family to New Jersey
In 2008, God placed a mission on his heart to go after those who were tired of being beaten down by the gospel to show them that God is a gentleman, that He is love, unconditional love, to use his gifts to bring in the lost and the hurting. GSC Music is part of his mission. Created in 2010 Gods Sub Culture is a means to produce great original music and to entertain, inspire and inform the world. While working on his continual mission Jamar became inspired to start writing an album. Each day he would sing or hum a melody into his recorder. Before he knew it, Jamar had 20 songs to produce. In July of 2011 Jamar released his first solo cd entitled “If We Decide Love”

After six years in hiatus, “They’re Back”.

The well known merengue/tropical band, originally named Grupo Swing was formed in 1996. The group started with just 7 musicians, as the intention of the group was to play in small local venues, but after just one year of successful performances, the fan base grew, the larger venues started taking notice and the demand to expand set in.

In early 1997, The Group expanded to 13 musicians and rebranded themselves as Grupo Swing Natural. The reason behind adding “Natural” came from the fans and club owners, as every time they finished their performance, everyone would comment on the excellent show they put on and how natural they all looked while performing. The “Natural” comments caught on, and it stood that way for the next 10 years.

For the next several years Grupo Swing Natural, either starred or opened up for larger acts in many venues across the Northeastern parts of the United States, maintaining themselves as one of the most booked bands of their genre, playing up to 160 gigs a year without the benefit of ever recording a whole CD, although their songs are mostly originals.

The group had formed a bond, maintaining the same musicians throughout their years, they had become much more than musicians, they became brothers. But in 2006, they decided it was time for a break and decided to go their separate ways. For the next several years everyone worked on their own separate projects, some of them even moving out of state, but all the while maintaining communication amongst each other.

Now, after six years in hiatus, “They’re Back”.
In May 2011, Refocused and Recharged they decided it was time to reform the band and reclaim their position as one of the top live performing bands. My name is Terry Wilson and I am a Gospel DJ. I started deejaying in college. I did this for 3 years. I serviced college parties, boat rides, house parties, skating parties, etc. and, also, worked at a record shop. I continued to deejay from 1981 to 1986 working in the college circuit. I obtained a partner and soon we had gigs almost every weekend. I journeyed back home in 1986 with all of my equipment. I became a Christian and got saved, born again and kept all of my jazz albums and CD's. I, then, realized that there were no Gospel DJ's, period, in my area. So I, thought to my self, that it would be a perfect combination for me and all the Christians that are getting married; and since there were no Christian DJ's I decided to fill that need in the community. As mentioned prior, I kept my Jazz CD's and albums and began to obtain nice instrumental Gospel Jazz for Christian weddings and for the cocktail hour for the receptions. I, then, started doing Gospel hip-hop and Gospel rap for the young adults/teenagers and they really enjoyed it. So, I began to do Gospel events more frequently as the news spread of a Gospel DJ named Terry Wilson, my music expanded. I have club gospel, gospel house, gospel reggae, calypso gospel, latin gospel, etc. Weare a mobile gospel dj company named DGE Entertainment and we travel frequently. I have been in the Gospel DJ business for over 23 years and going strong!

J-Sweetz was born in Newark, NJ in the Ivy Hill Apartments & then later the Hoodavillie section. His stage name is an abbreviation of his government name, Jason Sweet.The story of him rapping is odd.Never a fan of rap prior, his older brother was always in the house bumping rap music & one day watched & recorded Method Man's "M.E.T.H.O.D MAN" video on video music box. After watching the video & falling in love with the song, as well as hip hop in one tune, he walked to his local park reciting rhymes to his friends that he thought was Method's words to the song...it wasn't. Instead it was his calling, realizing HE was rapping HIS own rhymes.After friends kept urging him that he can rap & keep going, J soon became the local dude that can rhyme good at the young age of 9, realizing that he truely received a gift from GOD. After sitting back, studying, & loving the genre of hip hop, thanks to listening to guys such as Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, & numerous others, J soon began engaging in hip hop cyphers, battles, and homemade demos with friends around his neighborhood. But he didn't take it serious at first, as he began rap on then off again. But his calling soon got a full hold of him as he began rapping more & taking it serious. Then when he got word that his closest cousins Redlight Entertainment was making noise down in Bethlehem & Allentown, PA, J wasted no time visiting then eventually moving down there & linking up with his family. From there J began a buzz of his own, making several features on Redlight group albums, mixtapes, & Red Mcfly's solo albums & mixtapes. He recently just dropped his own album titled "Welcome 2 My World" & plans on stopping no time soon, earning several Lehigh Valley nominations ranging from Song Of The Year to Lyricist Of The Year. But J never forgot home, as he putting in double work by not only putting PA on the map, namely the Lehigh Valley, but also making people remember the dominance that New Jersey hip hop has in hip hop & play a key part in it's resurgence.

With that said its very simple who we are.. We are 3 solo guys rappers who hung out together so much we build a strong bond, very family like!

Yung Budd: Brooklyn native started in to the music field when he was only 12 years old. Rapping, producing, and engineering Budd was gaining a huge buzz! He started recording and preforming with Brooklyn ZU and the Wu Tang family. His energy is unmatched and swag is on a million!

Tigga: fresh new style coming out of south side Bethlehem, a youngen in the game. But nothing is young about his style. He started music around 17 years old and ran with it. Gaining a lot of respect as an artist he started to learn the production side of music. He is currently in school at the arts institute in Philly for audio and video.

DouBle: Also from South side Bethlehem. With a style unlike a lot of rappers and a very unique voice he gained local respect easily. DouBle started rapping around the age of 16. With a rare story telling ability and punch lines straight out of the squared circle, he also uses his unparalleled motivation to connect with other artist, Producers, and club owners. And keeps the shows on deck.

As a group they put they first mix tape out on Datpiff.com called "The starting 5ive" They are now working on the second mix tape with samples and inspiration from all corners of music. The project has a vibe that will be undeniably craved for. They are also in the process of the first album that has fans sitting on the edge of their seats!

With shows they started local like everyone does but it didn’t stay local for very long. They did the Hot 97 showcase in Bronx. They than did a show in Philly preforming on stage with Brooklyn ZU, the Wu-tang fam, and Coponne form CNN. Brooklyn Zu aka ZU bullies liked them so much they invited The H.U.R.T on a small tour. So off to Cleveland they went! After the show in Ohio The ZU fam asked them to join the Brooklyn ZU family and introduce them joining the team by having them on a mix tape called "School yard bully's" dropping sometime this year. They also were getting a lot of noise back home. And linking up with King Magnetic they had a few shows such as opening up for platinum rap star Saigon, opening for King magnetic and reef the lost cause in Boston Ma. And Dover NH.

Anthony Marte, born in September 9, 1980, lead vocalist and first guitar of group called (Adyktion). As a Latino musicisian from his beloved country Dominican Republic and raised in New York. At age 12 he started writing compositions and playing the guitar. Also throuout his career he has composed songs for other different groups. Anthony's idea is to make music from the heart, about love. Adyktion is a bachata group, But that does not mean we have one type of flavor no, the group focused a bit more on the female’s feelings side, like the beautiful flower that the woman really is caressing their pedals with beautiful bachatas that will reach their hearts and souls. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Kiyaana Cox-Jones has always had a passion for the arts. She started performing at the tender age of five in a small church in Newark, New Jersey. With 20 years of experience, she is an accomplished singer, songwriter and an award winning actress. Her credits include: Once on this Island, South Pacific, The Wiz, DreamGirls, Don’t Bother me I Can’t Cope, Mama I want to Sing, Westside Story, Into the Wood, and Gutter Beautiful . She won the Star Ledger Scholarship for her interpretation of Billie Holiday in, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. She has performed for Eartha Kitt, and Tisha Campbell. She is also a recipient of the Governors Award in New Jersey for dramatic interpretation. She wrote and produced her one woman show, Confessions of a Diva. She is a graduate of Howard University. She currently serves as The Founder and Artistic Director of All-Star Children’s Performing Arts Center Inc., Founder and Executive Director of KJ Productions, former musical theater teacher and song writer for The Children Theater Workshop Summer camp in Washington, DC for 4 years and former president of D.I.V.A. Inc., a Nationally Recognized Organization for women in the Arts founded at Howard. She has written and directed several productions with a focus in producing musicals. Her latest project was writing, directing and musically coordinating the 2010 Christmas musical, All I Want for Christmas is to Be Set Free”.

New Image Auto Club Inc. was established in 1994 in New York City. 2011 makes it 17 years that New Image has been open and we are stronger then ever. We are located in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida. We have cars from hondas, mazdas, toyota, dodge, mustangas, and more. We are a group of young and older men and women and all our kids. We dont only consider ourselves as a car club we consider ourselves as a Family. We are holding our 5th car show in Pennsylvania on June 18 at kutztown from 2-9 We are proud of the events we done this season. We did a carshow dedicated to one of our own fallen member "Sal". The show was a success. New Image was proud to give Ronalds Mcdonald Charity house $700.00 towards the foundation. I was recently invited to join DOWNTOWN BETHLEHEM'S "ART WALK" that is held the end of the month from May to August by Alfonso Todd & Associates to be part of his "PROLIFICK PLACE" in this event. I haven't done an outdoor event like this in a while, and it's a rare appearance when I do anything with my art outside and/or when I do a "family" event because as people know The Underworld is not necessarily a kid friendly environment, and after this I won't be doing it again for a LONG time, (ALL PARENTS, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY, THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT!) so I'm inviting everyone to join me at my stand for some:

FUN WITH CARDBOARD ART! For the adults, I'll have some acrylic, and water color "REAL-LIFE STILL-LIFE" and BETHLEHEM CITYSCAPES unframed paintings on cardboard for sale (at a better price than you'd find in the exhibits), and for the kiddies some:

--- GIANT PAPERPLANES, AND GLIDERS (out of cardboard) for sale! For them to throw around at their neighbors.

--- GIANT cardboard ALPHABET BLOCKS that spell UNDERWORLD in front of the table to play with and kick around.

---- A milkcrate or two filled with cardboard items, and a bunch of magic markers to color them with, and to get it all over their clothes, and to teach children AND big kids alike that it's fun to create with found/recycled objects.

So join me, and my trusty assistant/s for some CARDBOARD ART FUN! You can't miss me. I'll be the one wearing the cardboard hat, and tie.

Multi-instrumentalist Allan
Meyerson’s tasteful interpretation of the

Bernard England’s bass provides a

FUZED was born in the summer of
2010. Each member of the band is a

BAND BIOS

Allan Meyerson, woodwinds, has

been playing and teaching

saxophone, flute and clarinet for 40

years. He is an accomplished
classical, as well as jazz and blues musician. His
first professional jobs in the late 60’s were
playing in show bands in New York. Allan
studied music in Queens College CUNY. He has
also studied privately with Nat Shapiro (NBC
Orchestra), jazz great Lee Konitz, and living
legend David Liebman.

In 1985 he moved to NJ, where he was close
enough to NY and Philadelphia to raise his
family and still keep up with his musical
ambitions. In those years he played with local
jazz and blues groups as well as big bands and
symphonies.

Allan now resides in The Lehigh Valley,
Pennsylvania and is active with the local jazz
and blues scene there. In 2008 he was voted
“Best Wind Instrument” by his peers.

Over the past 40 or so years Meyerson has
played or recorded with some of the best
musicians in the world including: Pepper Adams,
John Faddis, "Marky" Markowitz, Charles
Fambrough, Jim Fielder, Marvin Stamm, Bobby
Radcliff, Garry Rissmiller, Craig Kastelnick, and
has recently opened for Pat Martino.

Paul D Demarest Jr., guitar, started

his musical career at the age of nine.

He played guitar in junior high and

high school stage bands. During high
school, he developed a love for jazz and classical
music, and attended The University of the Arts
in Philadelphia.

While there, Paul studied with Ed Flanagan, and
Robert Di Nardo (guitarist for The Mike Douglas
Show). Since January 1990, Paul has performed
locally with The Rob Stoneback Orchestra; a
Bethlehem based 19 piece big band. He also has
performed with the Asbury Jazz Quintet, Regis
Philbin, Al Martino, Julius La Rosa, Bob
Newhart, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Perry
Como, Emily Remler, John Blake, Jimmy Bruno,

Larry McKenna, Marilyn Horne, Barbara Cook,
John Swana, and Stanley Turrentine.

He has been teaching privately since 1984 and
has been playing in pit orchestras since 1983.
Paul has performed on guitar, bass guitar,
mandolin, and banjo in the Lehigh Valley area
with several groups including Muhlenberg
College, Cedar Crest College theatre
departments and Municipal Opera Company
(MunopCo) in Allentown.

Bernard England was born and

raised in the Jazz Capital of the

World, New York City. He now

makes his residence in The Lehigh

Valley, PA. Bernard studied music at
Queens College, NYC and while living in NYC
he studied with some of the greats of jazz . He
also participated in The Jazzmobile School of
Jazz Studies in Harlem, NYC.

Bernard honed his skills with his five year stint
as a member of the famous Harlem Renaissance
Orchestra.

England has over 30 years of playing experience
as a free lance musician on stand-up acoustic and
electric bass. With his vast experience and firm
roots in Gospel Music, R&B and Jazz he adds a
solid foundation to the band.

Gary Rissmiller is a musician’s

musician. For over 25 years, Gary has

been performing with the greatest

players in the jazz genre. Rooted

firmly in the experiential foundations
of jazz music, Rissmiller began playing in clubs
while still in high school, catapulting him into an
education more valuable than any school walls
via the same path as many giants of jazz.

Rissmiller has accompanied jazz greats Phil
Woods, Stanley Turrentine, Randy Brecker,
Charles Fambrough and David Liebman.
Furthermore, he has been the opening act for
popular jazz greats Lionel Hampton, Cab
Callaway, Joe Henderson, Yellow Jackets and
Spyro Gyra.

Rissmiller also teaches at Lehigh University,
Muhlenberg College, and Moravian College.

I was born in North Philadelphia and raised in a single parent home. My mom raised my siblings and I by working every day, all day. I started rapping while attending Abraham Lincoln high school n 2000. I participated in rap battles and freestyle during lunch period. I completed my first mixtape in 2006. I obtained my "buzz" by participating in local rap dvd productions, battles in the streets, and doing open mic performances and shows. My influences are Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Lil Wayne and Drake. I enjoy artists with versatility. I have a new mixtape coming out in July 2011 called Street Credit 4. It's my 7th mixtape and it has alot of hot songs on there produced by Jahlil Beats. Semi

Semi is a solo hip-hop artist and was born and raised in the small town of Salisbury, N.C. He moved to Allentown, PA and has taken his unique talent for song writing by inputting his own experiences into his lyrics, which has musically influenced A.B.E.‘s hip hop youth in a major way. Semi is a uniquely creative songwriter, able to produce rhymes on a piece of paper with a whisk of his pen. His list of rhymes is like a rappers' bible. His greatest inspiration was his grandfather (Burl Smith) who taught him that anything is in his reach and all he had to do was work for it. As a result of his dedication and hard work, Semi in collaboration with Luz Entertainment LLC, has a bright future ahead of him.

Shie Pachino was born to be a hip hop producer. Growing up in uptown NYC, Shie knew from a young boy that he wanted to have a career in music. He started to DJ and became a self taught recording engineer for mainly up-coming underground hip hop artists. Along with his brother, lyricist extraordinaire, Da Glimpse, he believes that he can help all the artists who come to get to the next level. Between his cool demeanor and his studio skills, he’s certainly able to do it. He wants the underground music scene to know that Luz Entertainment LLC, along with Meta Ent. is there for the them.

Quita

Hailing from Burlington County, New Jersey, 22 year old, Quita has a powerful voice and the looks to match. Quita has been doing music since the age of 14. At age 16, she auditioned for amateur night for the television program “Showtime at the Apollo” and was talented enough to make the cut. She performed on an episode hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. Unfortunately she didn’t win the competition but she impressed the judges enough to be invited back for another shot. The next episode she appeared on was hosted by Monique and though luck was not her side, yet again, that experience served as the motivation for her to continue with her dreams. She has joined Luz Entertainment LLC in the interest of advancing her career. She wants to show the world that she is blessed from birth.

Sage I.S. was born in Brooklyn, NY in the early 70s to a hard working father and a stay at home mother. He got his first love for singing at the age of 5 performing with his church's choir. At age 14 in a Brooklyn high school, he got his first real lessons with an instrument, the clarinet. Even though he enjoyed his clarinet, he knew that he wanted to do something else.
At 15, he formed a few short-lived club music singing groups with his neighborhood friends, the most memorable being the duet, Reflections. During this phase, Reflections was offered a contract by a local record company. Instead of agreeing to a stifling contract, in his opinion, he decided to keep his options open. Reflections parted company and it was during this time that he started to perfect his song writing.
At age 22, he took a chance at producing for the first time. He produced music for a few local, now defunct, Brooklyn hip hop groups but it wasn't long before rock music started calling. With singing, song writing and now producing under his belt, Sage formed a rock duet (Nexus) with a co-worker in 1996. This incarnation eventually morphed into the band Mindset, which Sage and his co-worker formed with a mutual friend.
While a member of Mindset, Sage bought a home with his family in Allentown, Pa. When Mindset broke up in 2000, Sage decided to put his musical career to the side for awhile. But music was never that far away from Sage.
In 2006, he decided to pick up his career up from where he left it. This time, however, he wanted more control over his musical destiny.
He drew up business plans for his own underground record company and on May 13th, 2006, the idea for Luz Entertainment LLC was born. He named the company after his terminally ill mother, Aida Luz. She died 2 weeks later. Although he was crushed he used the pain to bring his ideas to fruition. He decided soon after his mother's death that his company would stand for what his mother did, helping people. And that's what he would do. He would form a company that would help and prop up its underground artists.
Tiny Dancer (Sage’s wife), Semi, and a few others helped him make Luz Entertainment LLC a reality in late 2007.
Since its formation, Luz has released a bar coded CD on the market ( 2008) and have helped many Allentown artists in the pursuit of their careers, from free studio time to bookings to just being the company young Allentown area artists come to when they just have a few questions. It is a tradition that Sage plans to continue.

As CEO of Luz Entertainment LLC, Sage is determined to shine the light of Luz as bright and as far as it will go.

Ms. Mello Brigante is a female hip hop artist & event promoter for Liquid entertainment, based in her hometown,Allentown, PA. She has been into music all her life and mostly has her family to blame . Her entire family is musically motivated, with her mom being a gospel singer from Georgia, and her dad being a hard core rhythm and blues man from Tennessee. Ms. Mello’s hip hop interest peaked when she first saw Queen Latifahs “U.N.I.T.Y” video and “Push It” by Salt N Pepa. Seeing these strong black women rapping and demanding attention, really sent her future goal of being in the entertainment industry into high gear.
Even before she started rapping, she had imagined herself being featured on one of her favorite joints from back in the day, always thinking she would be a producer not a rapper. But In 2004, she became a part of a group entitled “RollCall” ,after they heard her spit a freestyle at a party. Months later, they recorded their first album “From the Beginning til the End” at Audacity Studios in town. It was highly successful in the tri-state area and set each of the 5 members’ styles apart. Eventually the group ended up going separate ways but remained close, and six years later, three of the original members including Mello combined forces to create two mixtapes together, “Blood, Sweat, and Tears” and “Ghidorah”. They pressed it and distributed them throughout the Lehigh Valley for free.
As of now she is a solo artist looking to put out more mixtapes and eventually her debut album. The hard work that she has done for Liquid Ent. promotions and the music she has put out in her town has helped Ms. Mello stand out as one of the hardest working females in the A.B.E. and granted her many performances at numerous venues. Her goal is to follow in the footsteps of female mc’s who paved the way for so many others and were successful in changing the face of Hip Hop. With a unique flow and delivery on tracks, Ms. Mello Brigante is sure to set a trend among females in Hip Hop.

Brooklyn-born, Angelo Maldonado was one contract away from possible worldly success in the music industry, but when the production contract that was offered to him by Platinum selling recording artist, Wyclef-Jean fell through, Angelo saw his dreams shattered right before his eyes. Angelo found himself jobless and living on the streets trying to find his way.
This would be the defining moment that gave birth to ,L.A.R.O., the the double threat (rapper/singer) recording artist that has a passion for using his gifts and talents to take back a generation of inner city youth and young adults who are lost and forgotten for the Kingdom.
Welcome, “The Takeover”, the ministry that fuels L.A.R.O.'s calling in the music ministry and industry.
Angelo was mesmerized by music as early as three years of age, his parents always knew he had a talent for singing. He was also strongly influenced by his grandfather who was a famous Latino singer and guitarist in the 1950s, “I would see him play his guitar and, his face would say it all. You could see the emotions and I knew he was in a zone.” So growing up he sang not only in the church, but anywhere someone would listen. Growing up in New York also exposed him to the new sound of Hip Hop music that would later influence him to hone his emcee skills. “I remember in '86 when Beastie Boys dropped their first album, I would hang out in the hallways with my friends playing the cassette over and over. It was my first real taste of rap.”
Even though music was a big part of Angelo's life not all was always good growing up. His mom had him at sixteen, which forced her to be on welfare to raise Angelo and his brother Paul as a single mom. He even witnessed his mother almost get beaten to death in their kitchen by his father. Drug, alcohol and emotional abuse was a constant in his household and learning how to survive in this environment has become a staple in what God would use to shape his ministry later on in life. “I know how it feels to be alone, desperate, unloved, and worthless. I want to be so in tune with the Holy Spirit that I can be used to make a difference and speak life into those who are struggling.”
By the time Angelo became a teenager, he gave in to the temptations of the world and lost interest in the church. He began to set off into a lifestyle of drug and alcohol abuse mirroring the lifestyle he saw growing up. Even though he made this decision, he never stopped singing and rapping. He started to develop a real talent and caught the attention of some of the most popular hip hop acts in the 90s. He shared the stage with The YoungBloodz, Beanie Siegel of State Property, and did some recording with Mr. Cheekz of The Lost Boyz. However, his biggest “success” in his growing career is when he was invited by Wyclef-Jean to perform with him on the Carson Daly Show, which later led to a production contract with Platinum Sounds, Wyclef's studio. “When the contract fell through I then realized that I could not do it on my own, and at that point I rededicated my life back to the Lord...”
After honing his skills in the secular music industry and given a testimony that could impact lives, L.A.R.O. was now born-again and ready to take his signature sound of hip hop, r&b and worship to the world. “Sean Slaughter was the first Christian hip hop minister I have ever seen, he was rockin' at a church in Baybridge Brooklyn and he went in; from that point on I never looked at Christian hip-hop the same.”
Present day, L.A.R. O. is gearing up to drop his first album, “Timeless” in March 2011. He has already released three singles , 'Falling In Love', a song that shows that L.A.R.O. is not afraid to display his more vulnerable side as he shares his pain; and the discovery he went through to find real Love;'For Me', a song that highlights L.A.R.O. 's realization that Jesus truly did die for him, even when he was wasting his life a way, and 'Always Be', which is a very personal song that was inspired by some issues which he dealt with his wife early in their marriage. L.A.R.O. has released these singles on ReverbNation and is rising up the local gospel/Christian charts.
L.A.R.O. has had the opportunity to minister to thousands in the tri-state region, and the thing that keeps him grounded is being a husband and a father ,” Being a husband and a father has changed my outlook completely. I have been single for most of my life, but now having a wife and children who truly love me for me is a blessing and made me realize the importance of my message and how it can affect others...” He is also actively involved in street evangelism at his local church and maintains accountability to Pastor Tony Adamo who also serves as his mentor in ministry. “Watching him live his life has been an inspiration to me because no matter what he experienced, he always stood firm and trusted the Lord; a man of incredible faith and perseverance. He has also taught me structure, order and doing everything with excellence, I love him for that and it shows in my music.”

MDC (Matt Chua) had always been a determined individual since his beginnings in the world of Hip-Hop. Four other artists along with himself formed a group known as the MC Army and put out a mixtape that had such an amatuer vibe many never acknowledged the newcomers. For Chua, this was his opportunity to show his talents as a producer/emcee as he produced everything on the mixtape and featured on a few tracks. He decided he would try to work on his own mixtape that slowly morphed into a debut album called "Just A Glimpse." Heavily influenced by Eminem's work, MDC focused on keeping emotions raw and subject matters close to home. The response was different than what Chua had anticipated originally as the public felt the young emcee had something to offer but was unpolished. He disappeared for two years crafting every aspect of his flow and finally came out with the cleverly titled "Curse Of The 2s." Keeping with the same concept as his first album, MDC delivered an amazing performance. Though remarks and critiques came from both sides of the spectrum, he was pleased because of what he had wanted to accomplish. Finally, MDC decided to create a concept album titled "Be Easy." He vowed he would not have any of his seriousness or explicit language appear on this album. Now labeled as what many feel could be his best work since, "Be Easy" became an instant hit by becoming his first internet only album. The response was overwhelmingly positive and this is what finally pushed the momentum in his favor. He performed in every venue possible, giving the audience a show that would be unmatchable by his peers and competition. Established as a great entertainer and on his way to becoming a credible emcee, MDC has pushed his way repeatedly into the spotlight and showing the world what he is capable of.
